Cool Homes: Y.M.C.A. Conversion

Share This Post:

Have you ever wondered what a 29ft ceiling feels like?

This week we are taking you to a men’s club conversion in Chelsea. After almost a century, it was sold in 2002 and transformed into a boutique condo space.

But there is more behind the story of this building. In fact, it was first known as the place where Charles Merrill met stockbroker Edmund Lynch, as The New York Times reported. Andy Warhol, Edward Albee and Al Pacino were also members.

The loft we are featuring today is one of the 9 units built in the Y.M.C.A. building. It’s 7000 sq ft was used as a gymnasium and an indoor running track back in the day. This is how it looked before.

A few upgrades later, the apartment now has a more open floor plan, along with four bedrooms, three full baths and two half-baths. Check out the gallery below to see what it looks like now!

In 2016, it was listed for $14.5M. Do you think it’s worth the price? Let us know in the comment section below! 😉
