Exploring Toronto: Eye Candy

Share This Post:

Who is ready to travel in another dimension?

As announced on our social media, Valeria, our marketing coordinator, has taken over our IG stories while we’re on vacation and taking you on a tour around Toronto.

Last week, she went to a pop up exhibition near Queen and Spadina called Eye Candy. Here’s what she thought of it!

Hi I’m Valeria!

I love going to pop-up exhibitions, I love to teleport myself into other dimensions, and I love taking pictures.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably want to visit all the pop-up exhibitions that are becoming more and more popular in Toronto. Have you been to HideSeek last Spring, or to the free Pop Up exhibition in Hudson Bay last winter? I have to admit that the time waiting in line was so long that I almost gave up – I didn’t, however!

Last week, I took our instagram followers on a tour to Eye Candy and I thought I’d share my thoughts with you here, in case you missed it, or in case you’d like to know what it’s about in advance. And yes, you still have time, as the pop up will close its doors by the end of October.

So, here’s what you should know.

How To Get There

The exhibition is located near Queen and Spadina. You can get there by streetcar – getting off at Queen and Spadina – or by subway, like I did – getting off at Osgoode stn. and walk your way there (west). If you take the streetcar on Queen, you may get off at Soho or Peter St. depending if you are coming from East or West.

However you choose to get there, I’m sure you won’t miss the bright and eye-catching pink building of Eye Candy.

Hours, Price and Discounts

I found Eye Candy relatively cheap, compared to its competitors and the exhibitions I have been to before and love all the great pictures I got!

You can choose to purchase your tickets on their website or at the door.

At the door $25 per person plus 13% HST and Showclix fees.

My Tip

They usually limit the time of the visit to 1 hour. However, I noticed that during the weekdays (I went on a Thursday evening after 7pm), there are less people visiting the exhibition giving you more time to take pictures with nobody coming to ask you to leave if you stay over the hour, to give space to new visitors.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed the pop-up, took tons of pictures (literally), and definitely stayed over an hour.

However, if you’re not a big picture taker, you’ll probably spend way less time than me as the exhibition is not very big. They set up a large room and divided it into 12 “teleportation” cubes, where you can go and take pictures.

If you have been to HideSeek the concept is very similar, even though I have to say I preferred it to Eye Candy, mainly for these reasons:

  • The Exhibition area was larger and had bigger rooms.
  • HideSeek offered more interaction with the rooms/scenes set up – more ways to actually play.
  • More staff ready to take pictures of you and your family/friends, no matter how many poses you wanted to try.

But I did love Eye Candy! And I definitely recommend it if you want to spend an out of the ordinary afternoon/evening out with your loved ones, and of course take a lot of pictures!

This is it from me! I leave you with a bunch of pictures of Eye Candy’s rooms (and my friend & I).

Let me know if you want me to write more about HideSeek. They’re going to open a new pop-up in fall in Montreal!
