Top 10 Toronto Neighbourhoods in 2021

How did your neighbourhood rank in “The Ultimate Neighbourhood Rankings” list released by Toronto Life?

Every year, Toronto Life ranks all of the city’s neighbourhoods, measuring everything from housing to transit to diversity. If you are planning to move to a new neighbourhood, or simply are curious to know where your ‘hood’ is standing on the list, check out the Top 10 neighbourhoods in Toronto below.

Did yours make the list?

1. Runnymede-Bloor West Village

If you live in Runnymede-Bloor West Village, then you are in the best ‘hood’.

Runnymede is a quiet, family oriented, charming almost small-town feel neighbourhood with beautiful homes and cool church conversions, a good selection of schools, and convenient access to shopping and transportation. Residents have everything at their doorstep, including a cheese shop and market food store, a place to pick up fresh pies, a mom & pop pizza shop, an organic butcher shop, and lots more.

The neighbourhood scores well in virtually every metric with a walk score of 81 and and excellent transit score of 78.

2. North Riverdale

This is the second best neighbourhood in the city, based on Toronto Life’s report.

Riverdale is a large, eclectic ‘hood’ in East Toronto. It is a diverse community that is especially well known for its colourful shopping districts and quaint homes. This high density urban neighbourhood is also blessed with abundant parkland where one can escape the hustle and bustle.

Top ranked schools, great shopping and convenient access to transit have attracted many families to this popular neighbourhood. Not to mention this neighbourhood is located just outside The Pocket, listed as a “coveted” neigbourhood by The Globe And Mail. There’s 24 hour TTC and subway stations along the Danforth. Stroll over to Gerrard St to check out some amazing places to eat or grab a coffee, such as Chula and Dineen Outpost (totally instagram worthy).

3. Danforth

This neighbourhood has a strong community association, Facebook group, newsletter, annual potluck, Easter egg hunt, pumpkin parade, movie nights in the park and fireworks show on Victoria Day, just to name a few.

With quiet dead end streets and a community feel, it’s no wonder this leafy enclave is a top choice for Toronto buyers looking to set some roots. In today’s busy lifestyle, it’s not uncommon to see residents sitting on their front porch getting to know their neighbours.

24 hour TTC and short walk to to five subway stations, including Pape, make this neighbourhood very accessible.

4. Mount Pleasant East

In third place we find Mount Pleasant East. We were a bit surprised to find it in the top 3 due to the Crosstown construction along Eglinton. But Toronto Life looks ahead of time and assures us that once the LRT is completed in 2021 (although we are not holding our breathe on that date), the headache will become one of Mount Pleasant East’s biggest draws.

We see affluent young parents loving the area, thanks to strong schools like Maurice Cody and Sunnybrook, and a ridiculously low crime rate. Transportation is also great as there’s easy access to the Yonge subway line.

5. Lawrence Park North

In 5th place we have Lawrence Park North. This neighbourhood is quite far from downtown, however, is “healthy and wealthy —37% of households earn more than $200,000.” Toronto Life states.

In the area, populated by affluent families, we can find safe streets and A-grade schools like Bedford Park and Blessed Sacrament.

Did your neighbourhood make the first half of the list? If not, see if you can find it below.

6. Rosedale-Moore Park (Includes parts of Summerhill)

7. Trinity-Bellwoods

8. Playter Estate Danforth

9. Leaside-Bennington

10. Yonge-St. Clair

And that’s a wrap!
