Styling Tips: How To Make A Gallery Wall
Are you tired of your empty walls and want to add a personal touch? A gallery wall may be what you’re looking for!
But what types of gallery walls are there and which one fits better with your home and taste?
Let us start by saying that there are tons of combinations in which you can hang your photos or art, there really is no limit to creativity! However, before you begin, you may want to ask yourself the following questions:
- Where do you want to create a gallery wall? You may want to consider the size of the wall/room where you want to make a gallery wall.
- How many pieces do you want to use and how many can you actually use? Consider the space you have and the size of your pieces.
- Do you want your photos/art framed?
- Is it better to hang them or lean them?
Once you have figured this part out, then you can start thinking about the different types of gallery walls and choose the best fit!
Where to make a gallery wall:
- PECULIAR WALL – If your home has a super narrow or peculiar space that doesn’t fit furniture or shelving (e.g. a corridor, a bathroom wall, or a pillar,…), you can create a focal point by adding some piece of art or your favourite pictures!
- FIREPLACE WALL – Fireplaces are always the focal point of a room. You can hang your pieces or simply lean them against the wall – They will be noticed for sure!
- ACCENT WALL – If you want to create an accent wall and add personality to your home, there is not better way than creating a gallery wall.
- TEMPORARY WALL – As the word just says, it’s temporary. This works great for children’s rooms, offices, libraries, community spaces, bars, etc. Just pin, hang, tape, lean your pieces and let creativity flow in.
Gallery wall styles:
-
ASYMMETRICAL – If you like a more eclectic look and don’t want your wall to look matchy-matchy, this is the style for you! – This type of gallery wall works well with any kind of frames (you can mix and match them), in most rooms and you can create asymmetrical gallery walls whether you want your pieces hanging or leaning.
-
DELICATE – If you have smaller pieces or generally a smaller wall, you may want to give a delicate and minimalistic touch to your room with this type of gallery wall.
-
SYMMETRICAL – This is something you need to plan in advance, and may require extreme preciseness and patience as symmetry is not always easy to achieve. If you like to add new pieces to your collection over time and still want to opt in for a symmetric gallery wall, make sure that each new piece directly coordinates in shape, size, frame type, and style.
-
WHITE WASHED – If you love the freshness that anything white suggests, then you’ll love this style. However, we will warn you, this may be one of the hardest ones to create as you may want to have everything look cohesive but not homogeneous. Mix white frames with minimalistic art, use pieces that have a white background and frame then with a darker frame.
Our Tip:
When making a gallery wall, make sure to test an arrangement before putting hammer to nail! You can do so by laying the pieces out on a large piece of kraft paper or wrapping paper. This allows you to trace around each piece and mark the hanging points. All you have to do now is tape the paper to the wall and hammer in the nails. Remove the paper, and voila!
