Christmas Decorations From Around The World
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to decorate your home for the holidays if you were to spend them somewhere else in the world?
We have collected some decorative traditions from far away, in case you’d like to mix things up this holiday season, you still have a couple of weeks before Christmas!
Italy
One of the Christmas decorations that is never missed in an Italian home is the “presepe” or “Nativity scene.” Usually every family passes the “presepe” down from generation to generation, as some of them are real treasures. But Italians don’t only stage “presepe” at home. It’s very common to find the nativity scene in most towns’ squares, in churches and even in schools, where kids get to craft and stage a “presepe” for their classrooms or for the school common area.

Mexico
Before Christmas, in Mexico, children usually perform “posadas” (Spanish for Inn or Lodging) to celebrate the part of the Christmas story where Joseph and Mary looked for somewhere to stay. For the Posadas, the outside of houses are decorated with evergreens, moss and paper lanterns. But there is also something else that can’t be missed in almost any Mexican celebration, and Christmas is no exception, yes, we are talking about the piñata!

Ukraine
If you don’t like spiders you may want to skip this, but in Ukraine they are actually a traditional Christmas tree decoration! The legend has it, that there lived a poor, widow cramped in a hut with her children. One day, a pine cone dropped and started growing outside the hut, but unfortunately the family didn’t have money to decorate the tree for Christmas. The spiders heard the children crying overnight and spun intricate webs on the tree. The next morning, the webs shone like silver and gold and made the tree exceedingly beautiful. Ukrainians celebrate this Christmas miracle to this day by decorating their trees with spiders and webs. Are you considering putting some on your Christmas tree too?
