How to Upgrade your Outdoors on a Budget

Share This Post:

Summer is finally here and we’re back with our styling tip series!

Since Toronto’s summer is so short, what better way to enjoy it than sipping a glass of wine or cold beer on your freshly upgraded balcony or backyard?

If you haven’t done so yet, start by adding some lights!💡💡

Whether you live in a condo or a house this tip is super easy to put into place!

We know it, it’s not Christmas, but you could use some yellow or white lights from your Christmas tree and hang them in your outdoor space to create a cozy vibe! Or go all out and purchase some string lights instead. How about that? Home Depot sells outdoor string lights starting from $ 25.

Create an area rug

Who said that an area rug is only for the indoors? We love rugs and we would put them anywhere. They are great for adding some colour, personality and coziness to your outdoors.
And, if you’re not happy with your deck, porch, concrete, etc, using a rug is also an easy and smart way to cover it! So, why haven’t you used an area rug on your patio/balcony yet? 😉

We did and we LOVE it!

But if you think a rug is not a fit, yet still want to give your floor a fresh look, why not to try using removable outdoor tiles? You can find them at IKEA starting form $2.28/sqft.

Here’s some inspiration for you! 💙

Add some accent pillows

Want an outdoor that screams your name? 😁

Give it colour and personality by adding some accent pillows! They come in all shapes, colours and textures imaginable, and when you’re tired of a certain look, you can easily change it, by switching out the pillows.

Want a modern look?
Go for an odd number, a limited colour palette and large geometric prints on smooth, tightly woven fabrics.

Do you prefer a more traditional style?
Focus on symmetry with 2 or 4 large pillows on either side of your sofa. If you have a busy pattern on your sofa, then pair it with a simple one or a plain colour on your pillows and vice-versa.

  • It’s smore’s season! Build an outdoor fireplace for your summer nights with friends and family! Or take the shortcut and buy one
  • Add some lanterns to complement that romantic ceiling of lights you have built!
  • Treat your self with a hammock or a hanging chair for a relaxing Sunday evening. We assure you the kids will love it too!
